Privacy Statement
How Games for Change Australia collects, uses and protects your personal information.
Who we are
Games for Change Australia is a not for profit organisation and the official Australian chapter of Games for Change. We run the Games for Change Australia festival, including the Summit and the Showcase, alongside education and industry programs that use games for social impact.
What we collect
We only collect what we need. In practice that is:
When you buy a ticket to one of our events
- Your name
- Your email address
- Where applicable, the name of your organisation, educational institution or school
- How you heard about the event
Tickets for our events at ACMI are sold and processed by ACMI, using their ticketing systems. Their privacy policy applies to that transaction as well as ours.
When you subscribe to our newsletter
- Your name and email address
When you apply to our Showcase, speak at our Summit, or work with us
- Your name, email address, organisation, biography, and links to your work
- Any material you choose to submit about your game or project
We do not collect sensitive information as defined in Australian privacy law, and we do not collect health information from attendees.
Why we collect it
We use your information to:
And to contact you if an event changes.
Including name badges, session lists and attendance.
Only if you asked for it, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
For the Showcase, speaking slots and programs.
Aggregated and de-identified feedback and attendance patterns.
Aggregated numbers only, never individual details.
Giving us your information is voluntary. You can decline. If you do not give us your name and email we cannot issue you a ticket, because we have no way to send it to you.
We will not use your information for anything else without asking you first.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only where it is necessary to run our events:
- ACMI, our Presenting Partner, under a written data sharing agreement, for attendees at events held at ACMI
- Our service providers, who host our website, send our newsletter and process our ticketing
- Where required by law
We do not sell your personal information, and we never will. We do not share it with sponsors or advertisers.
Where it is stored
We use reputable third party services to run our organisation. Some of these store data outside Victoria and outside Australia, including in the United States.
- Webflow, website hosting, United States
- Google Workspace, email and documents, United States
- Mailchimp (Intuit), newsletter and email marketing, United States
- Ticketing is handled by ACMI, so their arrangements apply to ticket purchases
Where we transfer information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with Australian privacy law, including by using providers with their own binding privacy commitments.
How long we keep it
7 years, to meet our tax and audit obligations.
Until you unsubscribe, then removed within 30 days.
7 years, so we can track applicants across festival years.
We delete or de-identify information once we no longer need it.
Keeping it secure
We protect your information with access controls, reputable providers, and by limiting who in our organisation can see it. Only people who need your information to do their job can access it.
If a data breach occurs that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- See the personal information we hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date
- Delete your information, where we are not required to keep it
- Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time, using the link in any email
If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you further rights, including data portability and the right to object to processing. We will honour these.
We will respond to any request within 30 days. There is no charge.
Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your personal information, contact us first and we will try to put it right.

If your complaint concerns a decision made by our Privacy Officer, or you are not satisfied with their response, you can ask for it to be reviewed independently by our Board.

Changes to this statement
We review this statement at least once a year. This version was published on 2 August 2026, and replaces the Games for Change Asia-Pacific privacy policy.
